Online Information Resources Blog

In the Spring of 2016, my supervisor at Ellis Library tasked me with researching how to better market our e-resources with the end goal of increasing usage of lesser known databases. After much research it was determined that a blog run and maintained by the Graduate Reference Assistants would be the best solution to this issue.

Initial Blog

When plans for the initial blog started, I discovered that the libraries marketing team was also looking into a blog type extension of the libraries site and that they would like to fold my project into that as well. However the larger library site would take much more time to come to fruition and my supervisor and I decided that we wanted to put together a basic blog to show to selectors as a proof of concept for this plan. Luckily a couple of days before the meeting where this proposal was to be unveiled, Springshare added a blog feature to LibGuides and I was able to quickly put together a blog rather than the mock-up I had previously prepared.

Current Blog

After the marketing team's website, the library newshub, was created, the e-resources blog was folded into the new site. Along with moving the blog to the new site, I began to train other GRAs on creating content for the blog as well as create training for future GRAs. At this moment in time, we are unsure of the impact of the blog, but I am hopeful that this will become a great tool for the library to utilize in the future.
