In the Fall of 2016, I participated in a project with the Black Archives of Mid-America located in Kansas City with my Leadership for Diversity course. As a part of the project, I and the 3 other members of the on-site team travelled to Kansas City to assist in the cataloging and organization of a generous donation that the archive received following the death of a local community member. This donation consisted of over 1800 volumes and the archive chose to repurpose it into a resource library.
As a member of the on-site team, I assisted in gathering the information about all 1800 volumes of the collection for the off-site cataloging team. Though the collection was made somewhat easier by the use of Libib, this was still an arduous task, especially considering that it was accomplished in a single weekend. After the data was collected and catalogued, it was made available to the Black Archives of Mid-America to utilize as a catalog for their new research library. More information about the project can be found on the project site.
